How a session works.
A session is 90 minutes with us, in person or on a video call, working on your own phone, laptop or tablet. Here is what happens before, during and after, and what you have at the end of it.
Before the session.
Nothing you have to prepare or send us. Two things arrive by email beforehand, and both are optional.
A few short questions, by link
Right after you book, an email from us with a link to a few questions about your devices, your email, and who would need to help you if something went wrong. They take a few minutes, with no account to create, and they never ask for a password, a code, or where one is kept. If you skip them, we ask the same questions at the start of the session.
Your Exposure Snapshot, before your session
A short report of where your email address appears in known data breaches, and what that means, in plain words. It comes by email before your session, with the link to your session page.
Have your phone and your computer or tablet nearby
The ones you use every day, charged. On a video call, use the computer for the call if you have one. A pen and paper, or a printer, helps for backup codes: one-time codes you keep yourself, for a day your phone is not there.
During the session.
A first session is 90 minutes, in person in and around Marin County, San Francisco and Park City, or on a video call from anywhere else, at the same price. You make every change yourself, on your own phone, laptop or tablet, while we guide you.
A few questions first
What would happen if your phone went missing today, which accounts would hurt most to lose, and who would need to get in for you. If you answered the questions beforehand, we start from your answers. “Not sure” is a fine answer to anything.
The most important fixes, in order
Usually your email first, then your Apple or Google account, how you keep your passwords, and your phone company. We skip what is already in place, and stop when time runs out. Whatever is left goes on your page, in order.
You make every change
We never see your passwords or codes, and will never ask you for one. On a video call, if you share your screen so we can see where you are, you pause it whenever a password or code is showing. In person, you turn the screen away.
Your session
After the session.
The changes you made stay with you, on your own devices and accounts, and what is left is written down, in order.
Your own page
What was done in the session, and what is left, in order, with a line on why each step matters. It opens from a private link, with no account or password to set up. Anyone with the link can open it, so please don't forward it.
A short recap
The summary we send by email after your session: what was done, what is left, and the link to book more help if you would like it.
More help, only if you want it
More help is $250 an hour, whenever you would like it, booked from the link in your recap.
Your phone is gone and you’re on a borrowed laptop. Do you know how you’d get back into your email?
If there is time, the last step of a session is to try getting back in without your phone: on a new device or in a private browser window, with your phone switched off, so you see for yourself whether you can get back in without it. Anything that does not work yet goes to the top of your page.
Just as important: what we never do.
The boundaries of the work are part of the work. These are structural, not fine print.
See or keep your passwords or codes
We never ask for, see, or keep your passwords, recovery codes, PINs or recovery phrases. No email, note or page about your session contains one, or says where one is kept.
Install software or monitor your accounts
No agents, no remote access, no standing connection to anything you own. When a session ends, nothing of ours is left running.
Take your accounts over
Every change is made by you, in systems you control. Nothing is handed over, and nothing happens without you.
Replace your attorney or advisor
We work alongside your estate plan, not instead of it, so the access your documents assume actually exists when it is needed.
Start with the systems that matter most.
The first call is free and takes 15 minutes. It is a conversation, not a commitment: we will talk through where you stand and what would help most.
